More Laborers Needed

More Laborers Needed

by Bryan Gibson

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:36-38).

The situation hasn’t changed much, has it? The harvest is still plentiful and the laborers are still few. Is there anything we can do about it? Sure there is. We can do just what Jesus told these disciples to do—we can pray for laborers to be sent into the harvest. But is there anything else we can do? Yes, we can become laborers ourselves. There’s a lost world out there, and someone needs to do something about it? Why not you? Here are some things you can do toward harvesting lost souls.

You can invite people to services. Start now. Get in the habit of it.

You can strike up a conversation with someone about the Bible. It’s not as hard as you think, and it will get easier the more you do it.

You can have this or any other article sent to someone who is lost. Don’t you want them to be exposed to the truth?

You can send tapes, tracts, outlines, Bible correspondence courses—anything that might be useful in teaching someone the gospel.

You can have a Bible class in your home, and invite someone who is not a Christian to come.

You can give more liberally, so that more can be done in reaching the lost.

You can pray for opportunities to teach others (see Colossians 4:2-3). Don’t be surprised when the Lord answers your prayers.

You can study more, so that you will be better equipped to teach the truth. You will gain more knowledge, but you will also become more motivated.
