Here are some excerpts from a column entitled, “Soap Opera Update, which appeared in the July 11, 2004 edition of the Montgomery Advertiser. Ask yourself as you read these excerpts: Do Christians have any business watching these programs?

Initially thrilled to learn that she’s pregnant, Jessica was crushed to realize that the baby could be Doc’s.
Thomas revealed his feelings about Caitlin to Brooke, unaware that Caitlin is growing closer to Rick.
After commiserating with Nick in a bar, a drunken Stephanie took Nick’s advice to go to the wedding and show Brooke who’s in charge.

When Sonny ordered a hit on Faith, she warned him that if anything happened to her, Carly would find out that Sonny is the father of Sam’s baby.

Editor’s Note: Obviously things have not improved on these shows since 2004. And, at the same time, does this not apply in principle to all that we watch and listen to? We need to run from those things that will influence us toward evil, especially when we know in advance what is going to be portrayed in front of us.
